Roy A. Olson, 78, died Jan. 18, 2004, at a Havre hospital of natural causes. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. Rodney Mruk officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at the Highland Cemetery.
Roy was born Feb. 17, 1927, in Havre to Andrew and Marie (Anderson) Olson. He was raised and educated in Havre, graduating from Havre High School in 1945. He then entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.
After his honorable discharge, he returned to Havre and married Joyce McCutcheon on June 23, 1949. The couple made their home in Havre. Roy was stationed at the Fairchild Air Force Base, and Joyce remained in Havre.
Roy was the owner of Olson Paint and Glass in Havre for 30 years. He was very involved in Havre Boy Scouts and was also a Mason. He was a former member of the Havre City Council.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce; brother Art and sister Vivian.
He is survived by his son, Robert A.(Shirlene) Olson of Ashland; daughters , Barbara (Leroy) Richardson of Big Sandy, and Karen Costa of Havre, a brother Vern (Hazel) Olson of Havre; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials in Roy's honor may be made to the Havre Boy Scouts or to a memorial of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
