SANDRA FRIBERG obituary

CHESTER - Sandra Jane (White) Friberg, 66, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, apparently of natural causes at her home in Chester.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chester. Her ashes will be buried in the family plot at Absarokee later this spring.

Sandy was born on Nov. 12, 1937, at Orange, Calif., to Lysle "Whitie" White and Mary Kathryn "Kay" Weir. Sandy was raised at Chinook and received her formal education there. She graduated from Chinook High School in 1956 and continued her schooling the next year at Northern Montana College in Havre, where she majored in business.

Sandy married Allan Friberg on June 7, 1957, at Chinook. They made their home at Inverness, where Sandy became a farm wife, homemaker, and mother of three. In the late 1960s, Sandy was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor, then additional medical ailments followed. The Friberg's divorced in 1978.

Sandy moved to Chester and worked part time as a nurse's aide at the Liberty County Nursing Home. She met Eugene Bengtson; they became companions for the 10 years prior to his death in 1992. Sandy moved to the Sweetgrass Lodge in 1993 and had lived there since. Tuesday morning Sandy was scheduled for some minor surgery at the local hospital. When she failed to arrive for her appointment, friends were called to check on her. She was found dead at her apartment.

Sandy was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. After moving to Chester, she attended the Assembly of God Church with Gene. In recent years, her attendance has been at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Sandy was active at the Chester Senior Center and the Sweetgrass Lodge. In addition, she had been a loyal member of Alcoholics Anonymous for more than 20 years. During her early married years she was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge in Joplin.

Sandy's hobbies included bingo, cards, and other games associated with the senior center and lodge. She also enjoyed music and dancing. In her private time at home she liked to read, especially westerns.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Kevin Lineweaver.

Survivors include her children, Greg (Kathy) Friberg of Vancouver, Wash., Debbie (Ron) Lineweaver of Joplin, and Jon Friberg of Inverness; and three grandchildren, Kirsten Friberg, Whitni Friberg and Curt Lineweaver.
