GEORGE TURBAK obituary

George Albert Turbak, 89, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at a Havre care facility after a long battle with cancer.

A public viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home. A rosary will

be recited at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Chapel with a vigil service at 7 p.m. with Tim Maroney officiating. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Jude Thaddeus Church with the Rev. Robert D. Grosch officiating.

George was born on Feb. 28, 1914, to Jacob and Jessie (Ruedig) Turbak in Fairmount, N.D. He attended school in Fairmount and Collegeville, Minn., and graduated from Fairmount High School in 1930.

He married Renette L. Bogut on Aug. 10, 1940, in the Saint Jude Catholic Church.

He worked for Cudahy Packing, Co., Gamble Robinson, Black's Transfer, E.W. Elliot, and the Great Northern Railway. He retired from the Burlington Northern Railway in May of 1975.

He was one of the organizers of the Havre Central Roundtable and served as treasurer for several years. He was especially interested in the youth sports program. He was a member of St. Jude Parish, Knights of Columbus, Eagles, and Blue Horizon Good Sam's Chapter, where he also served as treasurer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. His family always came first in his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Jessie Turbak; sisters, Kay, Marguerite, and Joan; daughter, Joan Patricia Turbak.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Renette Turbak of Havre; daughters, Judy (Ed) Matter of Havre, Julie Turbak of Havre, Jeanne (Mike) Kase of Billings and Janice (John) Miller of Tulsa, Okla.; sister, Donna Theede of Overland, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
