MINOT, N.D. - Clara Lillian Sohm, 96, of Minot died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, in a Minot nursing home.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Nursing Homes Centre Chapel in Minot, with interment at Rosehill Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Thomas Family Funeral Home in Minot.
Clara was born July 27, 1907, at Hoffman, Minn., to Martin and Ingeborg (Langeland) Munson. She was
raised and educated in Hoffman and assisted with the operation of the farmstead until moving to Minot.
She was employed as a dietitian at Trinity
Medical Center until she was united in marriage to Arthur Berg in 1928. He died in 1941, and she moved with the family to Alexandria, Minn., where she was employed at Barthalemy Furriers. She later worked as a matron at Bethany Children's Home in Alexandria.
Clara was united in marriage to Frank Sohm in 1951 in Hingham. They made their home on a ranch near Kremlin until retiring in 1974. They moved to Havre, where they lived until Frank's death in 1986. Clara continued to make her home in Havre until moving to Minot in 1997.
Clara was a member of First Lutheran Church in Havre until moving to Minot, where she became a member of First Lutheran Church and was active with the church's quilting group.
She was a former member of the Sons of Norway, AARP and RSVP in Havre.
While living in Havre, she volunteered at the Vande Bogart Library at Montana State University-Northern, North Central Senior Citizens Center and Devlin Elementary School. She enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States and abroad. She had traveled aboard many cruise ships and attended elder hostels in the United States.
Clara enjoyed working with flowers, and shared these with a number of churches, university functions, weddings and at the senior citizen center in Montana.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Arthur and Frank; son, E. Jay Berg; great-grandson, Eric Hurst; brothers, Ingvald, Lorrin and Kenneth; sisters, Cora, Anna and Mildred; and stepchildren, Vernon, Claire, Leon and Gene.
Survivors include her daughter, Anna Mae Hunsaid of Minot; daughter-in-law, Ardis Berg of Lakewood, Calif.; stepchildren, Bonnie Erlmeier of Lake City, Iowa, and Duane (Delores) Sohm of Havre; grandchildren, Jacquelin Hurst, Paul Nagel, Denise Berg and Larry (Jackie) Berg; two great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; one step great-great-grandson; sister, Inga Ward of Hibbing, Minn.
Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church's Boundary Waters Fund or an organization of the
