WOLF POINT - Katharine Mary "Kat" Byrd, 18, of Wolf Point died in Missoula on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
A funeral service was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today at Immaculate Conception Church with the Rev. Steve Zabrocki officiating. Interment
will be held at Highland Cemetery in Havre at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Katharine "Kat" was born Aug. 16, 1985, in Shelby to Donald and Annette (Codden) Byrd.
She was raised in Wolf Point and attended schools there. She joined her sister Rachael as a student at the University of Montana in Missoula. She worked as a lifeguard at the Wolf Point city pool for three years and at Old Town Grill for four years. Kat really enjoyed her work and co-workers.
Katharine had a beautiful voice, and loved playing the piano and sharing her gift of music with others. She was a member of the Swing Choir at WPHS for three years. She won the National Outstanding Senior Award for music. She was an avid volleyball player throughout high school. Katharine was very involved in her church community as a cantor, a member of the youth choir, a minister of the Cup, and Eucharistic minister to residents at the Faith Home. She was very social and loved spending time with her friends.
Katharine was preceded in death by her half-brother, Walker Byrd of Helena in January 2000.
Survivors include her father, Donald Byrd of Helena; mother, Annette (Codden) Byrd of Wolf Point; sisters, Sarah Byrd, a student at the University of Minnesota, and Rachael Byrd, a student at the University of Montana in Missoula; grandparents, Clayton and Pauline Codden of Havre; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
