Sugarbeeters continue to roll through District 2B opponents, J-I finishes second at own tourney

The Chinook Sugarbeeters continued to roll towards a District 2B title with a decisive win over the Harlem Wildcats 25-9, 25-16, 25-10 Friday night in Harlem.

Tiffany Cuerth dished out six assists while Monica Thackeray and Whitney Lybeck each had eight digs to lead the Beeters. Megan Walls and Carly Haluszka each had four kills to lead Harlem.

The KG KouGars got a little revenge, defeating the Havre High junior varsity squad a week after losing to them. Cady Arifin led KG with 10 kills, five aces and five blocks. Heidi Donoven dished out 22 assists and Whitney Hanson added 10 kills. Havre High was led by Lena Suek with nine kills and five aces and Justine Erhard with 19 assists.

Class C volleyball featured a bevy of weekend tournaments around the state. The majority of District 6C teams were in Joplin for the J-I Showcase. The host Rams finished with a 2-0 record in pool play and advanced to the winners bracket. Blue Sky, which finished 2-1 in pool play, joined the Rams in the winners' bracket along with Geraldine and Great Falls Central

Rocky Boy, Box Elder and Big Sandy all advanced to the consolation bracket with the Bears and Stars picking up wins. Big Sandy then defeated Box Elder 25-18, 25-22 to capture the consolation title.

In the winners' bracket semifinal, J-I upset Blue Sky 25-21, 25-22 to move into the championship against Geraldine. But the Rams' winning streak was ended in the title game. as Geraldine won a close match, 25-23, 25-22.
