She grew up on the family homestead and received her formal education at a country school near the farm. She taught Sunday school to area children in the hayloft of the family barn. In the winter, she rode to school bareback to take advantage of the horse's warmth. She continued to enjoy horseback riding over the years. Millie enjoyed music of all kinds and playing the piano. She also enjoyed playing cards of all kinds. She taught of all of her grandchildren to play kings in the corner. Millie was noted for her flower gardens. She liked her flip-flops and big earrings and never liked to be seen without her makeup and her hair just right. She enjoyed camping fishing, cooking and baking, especially for family gatherings.
