PHYLLIS LEONARD obituary

Phyllis Mae Leonard, 67, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at her home after a long battle with cancer.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Van Orsdel United Methoidist Church with the Rev. VaunDalee

DeLong officiating. A fellowship luncheon will be held immediately following the service at the church.

Phyllis was born Sept. 19, 1936, in Ronan to Clarence and Louise (Works) Bilile. She was raised and educated in Ronan and graduated from Ronan High School.

She moved to Havre to attended Northern Montana College where she met Charles Leonard. The couple were married on Nov. 10, 1956, in Havre.

Phyllis worked as a paralegal for Hauge, Hauge and Ober in 1956, was the bookkeeper for Black Butte Country Club, and served on the Havre City Council for five years. She was elected mayor of Havre in January of 1993 and retired in January of 2001.

Phyllis enjoyed golfing, gardening, reading local history, bird watching, and spending time with her friends.

Phyllis was active in the community and served on many boards, including the Montana State Board of Insurance, Salvation Army, HELP, D.A.R.E., Havre Beneath The Streets, The Historical Society, and Bear Paw Development Corp. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi and the Democratic Party.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles A. Leonard in 1999; sisters, Alice Bilson, Evadean Walchuk and Maxine

Guenzler.

Survivors include her children Kathy (Bob) Anderson of Havre and Gail Leonard of Bozeman; grandchildren, Erin and Eric Urango of Bozeman; brothers, Morris Bilile of Ronan, Roy Bilile of Ronan and Ray Bilile of Kalispell.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
