HARLEM - Evalyn Floe (Frisvold) Cowell, 72, who farmed and ranched near Harlem, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at a Havre hospital due to natural causes.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Harlem High School little gymnasium with burial following in the Harlem Cemetery.
Evalyn was born in Sidney on
Nov. 3, 1930, to John and Nellie (Knauts) Frisvold. Since her father worked for the Great Northern Railway and moved frequently, she lived at various times in Richey, Hobson and Hogeland. By 1942, she was living in Harlem. She graduated from Harlem High School in 1948.
Evalyn married Gene Cowell on Sept. 1, 1948, in Chinook. While he was overseas in the U.S. Navy, she lived with her sister in Auburn, Wash., and returned to Harlem in 1950.
Evalyn was a charter member of the American Lutheran Church of Harlem, and served for many years on the board of the Harlem Public Library.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, in November 1993; sisters, Marge Miller and Imogene Watson; and daughter-in-law, Patty (Bruss) Cowell.
Survivors include her son, John Cowell of Harlem; daughters, Gerri (Al) Sternberg of Havre and Pattie Cowell of LaPorte, Colo.; sister, Dorotha (Don) Taylor of Mesa, Ariz.; grandchildren, Jenny (Adam) Jelinek of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Luke Sternberg of Ann Arbor, Mich.
