ROBERT BROWN obituary

CARSON CITY, Nev. - Dr. Robert L. Brown, 71, formerly of Gildford, died on Friday, July 25, 2003, in Carson City.

Brown was born in Havre on Feb. 23, 1932, to Loren and Carrie Brown of Gildford. He was raise on the family farm south of Gildford and attended Pride of the

Prairie School south of town and then Gildford Public School. He was active in sports and music. He graduated from Gildford High School in 1950. After high school he went to college and got his degree in education and taught music for two years. He decided to study medicine. He attended the University of Iowa for two years and then entered medical school in Grand Forks, N.D. He transferred to Baylor University in Houston. He interned at the Marine Hospital in San Francisco at the Presidio.

Brown moved to Nevada and worked as a doctor on the Schurz Indian Reserve. He worked in Ely in the 1960s and moved to Carson City in 1966, where he was a general practitioner with Carson Medical Group.

He was named director for the American Medical Association for the state of Nevada in the 1970s. He became director of Carson Convalescent Hospital. He closed his practice in 1988 and went to SIIS, where he was chief medical adviser for the state of Nevada Workers' Compensation program. In 1994, he went to work at Churchill Community Hospital and worked in the emergency rooms in Lovelock, Winnemucca and Battle Creek.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Carrie Ellen in 1952, his father, Loren in 1975, and his oldest brother, George in 1990.

Survivors include his daughter, Alice Walker, and his son, both of Carson City; sisters, Jessie DeVries of Palmer Alaska, and Phoebe O'Dell of Finland; brothers, Edwin (Ed) of Vancouver, Wash., Arnold (Mike) of Flagstaff, Ariz., Floyd (Buck) of Fairfield, Calif., and Dwight of Medicine Hat, Alberta; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
