LOHMAN - Betty Nemetz, 77, of Lohman died early Thursday morning, Aug. 28, 2003, at a Great Falls hospital following surgery after a brief illness.
A funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Lloyd Sweet Auditorium at the Chinook High School. Burial will follow in the Kuper Memorial Cemetery.
Betty was born on June 30, 1926, on the family farm in Paradise Valley east of Chinook to P.O. and Besse (Overcast) Butler. Her younger years were spent with her parents, along with sisters Rosaleen, Emma and brother J.T. and five short years with Danny. Her life took on a whole new meaning in the fall of 1940, when at the age of 14 she met the true love of her life, James K. Nemetz of Lohman.
Betty and Jimmy dated for four years and were married on June 7, 1944, in Chinook, just weeks after she graduated from Chinook High School. In those 59 years of marriage and their life on the farm in Lohman, their love and respect for each other was a true example for all to follow.
Her special memories included family get-togethers, games, races and dances at Zurich Park, classmates at North Fork School, entering at the Blaine County Fair, dancing with Jimmy at Logie or anywhere else she could be in his arms, yardwork, her perfect penmanship, beet harvest, the many trips to Glacier and all the travels across the United States, class reunions and all-class reunions, Kenny Overcast concerts, lights, 4-H, FFA, FHA, music concerts, sporting events, and anything her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were involved in, her daily hand of rummy with Jimmy after lunch, riding with Jimmy on his hauling trips every chance she could get. She brought joy to family, friends, and strangers with countless acts of kindness, including the view for many travelers on U.S. Highway 2 who enjoyed the lighted tractors in their yard at Christmas time.
Betty was active until the day she went to the hospital. She sewed, baked, decorated, cooked, crafted, loved, shared, cared, visited, supported and encouraged.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, P.O. and Besse Butler; brother, Danny Butler; and brother-in-laws, Jack Peterson and George Turner.
Survivors include her husband, James Nemetz of Lohman; daughters, Becky (Bill) Blake of Havre and Anita (Pete) Haluszka of Harlem; son, Ed Nemetz of Lohman; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; sisters, Rosaleen Peterson of Billings and Emma Turner of Moore Croft, Wyo.; brother, J.T. (Wilma) Butler of San Antonio, Texas; just like a brother Bob (Nancy) Inman of Chinook; three great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
Memorials may be sent to one's choice.
Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
