Katherine "Kate" Wojtalik, 81, formerly of Big Sandy, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at a Havre care center of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Holland and Bonine Chapel with Marvin and Marilyn Gunnarson officiating. A fellowship will be held at the St. Jude Parish Center immediately following the memorial service. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
Katherine was born on March 8, 1922, at
Havre to Adam and Katheryn (Hoff) Zinn. She was raised in the Kremlin area and attended schools there. She graduated from Kremlin High School.
She married Hank Wojtalik and they later divorced.
Katherine, known as Grandma Kate in Big Sandy, was a cook at Q's Cafe for many years. Her family moved to her to Havre when she retired at 75 so she could be closer to them. She moved under protest because she loved living in Big Sandy. She became a resident of Eagles Manor and led the bingo games there.
She knitted afghans for people who were getting married or having a baby. She liked to garden and enjoyed her plants. She was also a jokester who enjoyed people.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Katherine Daughenbaugh in 1972; eight brothers and sisters; and granddaughter, Danielle Daughenbaugh.
Survivors include her brother, Richard (Lois) Zinn of Havre; sisters, Atheila "Dilly" Nivens of Big Sandy and Louise Prowse of California; son-in-law, Tom (Judy) Daughenbaugh of Havre; grandchildren, Kathy (Mike) Palmer, Jan (Bill Harrison) Knoll, Tiffany (Billy Kimberling) Daughenbaugh and Desarae (Adam Kutzler) Daughenbaugh, all of Havre; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Memorials may be made to the Eagles Manor, 20 W. Third St., Havre, MT 59501.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
