Lillian Mae Nelson, 93, of Havre died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at a Havre care center of natural causes.
Viewing will be Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home. Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Holland
and Bonine Funeral Chapel with Ila McClenahan officiating. Interment of the cremated remains will follow at the Highland Cemetery.
Lillian was born in Harlem to Roy and Tillie (Roswald) Gardner. She attended grade school in Chinook, high school in Havre and worked for her father as a bookkeeper for Monarch Lumber Yard. When she was 5 years old her mother passed away.
She married Carl F. Nelson on June 2, 1933, in Havre and the couple made their home here.
Lillian served as past president of the VFW Auxiliary Post 497 and was an honorary member. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary Post 166 and a member of the Degree of Honor Association.
She became a resident of the Northern Montana Care Center on May 5, 2000. Lillian was a great story teller of her childhood and married life and an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Tillie Gardner; husband, Carl Nelson, brothers, Harry, Herbert, Ray and Leslie; sisters, Ruby Rehn and Honey Broz; and one infant child.
Survivors include her daughters, Anna Mae Maxwell of Havre, Carol (Bob) Armer of Stillwell, Kan., and Donna Williams of Havre; sons, Roy (Linda) Nelson of Sammamish, Wash., and Bill Nelson of Everett, Wash.; brother, Chris (Dorothy) Gardner of Helena; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, Sandy Anderson of Havre, Shelly Phister and Sherrie Hulford; and nephew, Richard Saunders.
Memorials in Lillian's honor may be made to the Northern Montana Care Center Chapel Fund, P.O. Box 1231, Havre, MT 59501.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
