ROY LEAMER obituary

Roy A. Leamer, 77, retired machinist from the Burlington Northern Railway, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at a Havre care facility of natural causes.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Highland Cemetery with Ila McClenahan officiating.

Roy was born Nov. 30, 1925, to Vernon and Minnie (Binger) Leamer in Spokane, Wash. He attended schools in the Spokane area and completed his education at Roger's High School.

In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific. While in the Navy, he served aboard the USS Melvin, USS Appalachian and USS Prairie. He

was awarded the Pacific Area Campaign Medal with eight stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with two stars, and the World War II Victory Medal.

In 1948 he went to work for the Great Northern Railway in Spokane, Wash. In 1949 he transferred to Havre where he met and married Marian A. Campbell July 2, 1950.

Roy retired from the railroad in 1990 after 42 years of service.

In his spare time, Roy enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, tying flies, working in his yard, baseball, walking, and especially John Wayne movies.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Minnie (Binger) Leamer; wife, Marian (Campbell) Leamer; and grandson, Brian Fanning.

Survivors include his daughters, Diana (David) Fanning and Kathy (Gary) Couch both of Havre; son, Larry (Karen) Leamer of Graham, Wash.; brother, Lester Leamer of Casa Grande, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
