Lillian "Bill" Phipps, 91, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, of natural causes at a Havre care facility.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Chapel, with Ila McClenahan officiating. Burial will be at the Kuper
Memorial Cemetery in Chinook, with Ila McClenahan officiating. There will be a fellowship reception at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1315 Washington Ave., Havre, following the committal service in Chinook.
Lillian was born on Dec. 20, 1911, in Bergen, Norway, to Neils C. and Josephine (Hoem) Thompson. Shortly after her arrival the family immigrated to the Harlem area. She attended schools in and around Harlem.
She met Lester Harold Phipps in Havre and the couple were married July 6, 1946, in Havre. Lester was a welder and pipe fitter, which caused significant travel for the family. The couple returned to Havre after Lester's retirement.
Lillian was an avid reader and enjoyed music. She also enjoyed outings to the Bear Paw Mountains and Beaver Creek Park.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She was preceded in death by her parents Neils and Josephine (Hoem) Thompson; husband, Lester Harold Phipps; sisters, Marilyn Bartow and Amy Thompson; brothers, Leif Thompson, Levi Thompson, Norman (Veda) Thompson, and Grant (Marion) Thompson.
Survivors include her daughters, Susanne Phipps of Spokane, Wash., Amie (Bill) Swenson-Keenan of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; son, Donald Phipps of Shakopee, Minn .; sisters, Virginia Ettien of Havre, Ruth Brandon of Havre, Betty Bauer of Havre, and Muriel Thompson of Leonardo, N.J .; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials in Lillian's honor may be made to the Havre-Hill County Library, 402 3rd Street, Havre, MT 59501, Northern Montana Care Center, P.O. Box 1231, Havre, MT 59501, or a person's choice.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
