HOWARD OLSON obituary

Howard Glenn Olson, 79, retired railroader, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at a Great Falls Hospital of natural causes.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church in Havre with the Revs. Catherine Card and Brad Ulgenes officiating. The committal service will

be held at the Highland Cemetery in Havre following the funeral services. There will be a fellowship reception at the church following the committal rite.

Howard was born March 9, 1924, to Halvor and Gunda (Aamot) Olson in Havre. He was raised and educated in Havre. He completed his education while serving in the U.S. Army during WWII. He enlisted in the Army on April 15, 1943 and served in the South Pacific. He often talked about the Philippines. He was discharged July 7, 1945, in Van Nuys, Calif.

After the Service he lived in the Portland area and worked for the SP&S Railway. He later returned to Havre and continued working for the railroad until his retirement in 1986.

In 1953 he met Kathleen Wagner and the couple was married June 28, 1953, in Chinook at the American Lutheran Church.

Howard enjoyed Antiques, bicycles, fishing, hunting and being at Duck Lake. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Havre, serving as a Steven's Minister for several years.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Halvor and Gunda Olson; brothers, Art, Hank and Benny Olson; and sister, Esther Hamblock.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Olson of Havre; daughters Sandra (John) Blair of Spokane Wash., Linda (Jack) Ehry of Spokane, Wash.; son, David (Dawn) Olson of Spokane, Wash.; brothers, Lloyd Olson of Havre, Norman

Olson of Ronan and Francis Olson of Spokane, Wash.; sisters, Lorraine Cyr of Helena and Adeline Lopes of Orville, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to The First Lutheran Church, 303 Sixth Ave., Havre, MT 59501.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home in Havre.
