AGNES LAURENCE obituary

FORT BELKNAP - Agnes E. "Ippy" Laurence, 47, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at a Great Falls hospital due to respiratory failure.

A funeral service was scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Red Whip Recreation Center with burial following in Pony Hill Cemetery. A wake service was held Sunday evening in the Red Whip Center.

Ippy was raised by her late grandparents, Millard and Rose Weasel. She understood the Assiniboine language fluently, since her grandmother did not speak English. Ippy attended schools at Fort Belknap and in Oklahoma and Kansas.

She worked for the Fort Belknap tribal government in various departments for 15 years and retired a year ago due to failing health.

Ippy was a fancy dancer when she was a little girl and won first place numerous times in the area and in Canada. Ippy enjoyed listening to her MoTown classics. She enjoyed sports very much, especially basketball, baseball and bowling and was an avid Wildcats fan. She also pitched co-ed softball games in the past and was a member of the Quality Star Quilts bowling team.

Ippy lived her life to the fullest until her health forced her to slow down. She lover her granddaughter, La'Tia very much and enjoyed spoiling her. She enjoyed her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Millard and Rose Weasel; sister, Audrey Laurence; and stepfather, Louis LaMere.

Survivors include her sons, Moses, Marlin and Isaiah Laurence, all of Fort Belknap; mother, Ruth LaMere of Fort Belknap; brothers, the Rev. Dobie Weasel of Omaha, Neb., Eugene Weasel of Missoula, and Jon Weasel and Elliott LaMere, both of Fort Belknap; sisters, Jackie Weasel and Karen R. Laurence, both of Fort Belknap; one granddaughter; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
