CLIFFORD STUMP obituary

ROCKY BOY - Clifford Watson Stump, 79, died April 29, 2003, at his home in Rocky Boy after a battle with cancer.

A wake service was to begin Tuesday afternoon at Rocky Boy Lutheran Church. A traditional Indian service was to begin at 10 a.m. today, also at the church. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Boy Cemetery.

Clifford was born April 1, 1924, to Pat Peeper and Blanket Mighty Voice in Billings. Cliff was raised by his stepfather, John Stump Sr.

Cliff attended schools in Rocky Boy, where he grew up. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in World War II. He was honorably discharged as a private in 1946.

Cliff returned to Montana and lived and worked in Havre. He was a butcher by trade. Cliff worked at various places in Havre and retired when he became too ill to work.

Clifford enjoyed enjoyed his Indian cultural traditions. He also enjoyed playing bingo, cards and handgames, and spending time with his numerous nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and his brothers, sisters, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Flora Big Knife, and brothers, Rocky Stump, Pat Stump, Jim Stump, Donald Stump and Douglas Stump.

He is survived by: sisters Florence Sunchild and Patsy Gopher, both of Rocky Boy, and Julia Peeper of Havre; brothers John Stump Jr. of Rocky Boy, and Fred Stump of Havre; his special friends and card-playing buddies at PJ's and 4C's.

Arrangements are under the direction of Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
