DAVID HAWLEY obituary

THREE BUTTES - David Alan "Buzz" Hawley, 60, died on Friday, April 11, 2003, at his residence near Three Buttes due to natural causes.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Saint Paul's Recreation Center with funeral Mass on Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Buzz Hawley Family Cemetery at Three Buttes.

Buzz was born at Fort Belknap Agency to David J. Jr. and Virginia (Chandler) Hawley on March 21, 1943. He attended schools in California and graduated from St. Paul's Mission in 1961.

Buzz married Loretta "Cookie" Stiffarm on Oct. 24, 1962, in Chinook. They moved to Chicago, Ill., in 1963 during the Relocation Act. He trained as an auto and diesel mechanic earning certificates of completion in both. Buzz worked for General Motors from 1964 to 1969. He moved his family back to Hays in 1969. He was a firefighter for one season. Buzz began farming in 1972 and started ranching in 1974. He retired from farming and ranching in 1990 due to medical reasons.

Buzz enjoyed playing pool, hunting, camping, tanning hides and making drum sticks. He especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great-grandson.

Buzz is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Virginia Hawley; and mother, Virgie Hawley

Survivors include his wife, Loretta "Cookie" Hawley of Fort Belknap Agency; father, Dave "Davey" Hawley, Jr. of Hays; daughters, Alana (William "Sonny") Brisbo, Carol (Harold "Tiny" Jr.) Martin, Laura (Patrick) Dugan, Karen (Ted) The Boy and Sara Hawley, all of Fort Belknap; son, Richard Hawley of Hays; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; brothers, Francis Hawley, Ronald Hawley and Vincent Hawley, all of Fort Belknap Agency, Glenn Hawley of Hays; adopted brother, Dan Williams of Landusky; sisters, Sharon Hawley of Hays, Gloria "Jean" Hawley of Hays, Kathie M. Hawley of Fort Belknap Agency, Sylvia Boe of Idaho, Nadine Yellowtail of Hays, Kristal Fox of Harlem, Elouise Geyser of Glasgow; adopted sister, Judy Ashton of Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
