JOHN KAMLA obituary

John Lawrence Kamla, 81, died at a Havre care facility Sunday, March 23, 2003, of natural causes.

A memorial service was scheduled

for this morning at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at the Highland Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. A fel-

lowship reception was to be held at the Jack Kamla residence, 1240 Washington Ave., immediately following the committal service.

John Lawrence Kamla was born on June 18, 1921, in Scobey to John L. and Anna E. (Goode) Kamla. He was raised and educated in Glasgow and graduated from Glasgow High School.

In 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in World War II.

He married Katherine Flynn on Jan. 3, 1943, in Seattle, Wash., before being transferred overseas. Upon his discharge in 1946, the couple moved to Texas so he could attend watch-making school. After graduation from school the family moved to Glasgow and to Malta in 1948 where they made their home.

John served as an apprentice to Leon Reed in Malta, where Reed had an optometry shop and jewelry store. John worked for Leon for nine years and purchased the jewelry store and it became Kamla Jewelers. He and Katherine owned and managed the store for 33 years.

John was a volunteer firefighter for 20 years. He served as state vice president and fire chief during his years as a volunteer firefighter. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce.

He enjoyed people and loved to laugh. He enjoyed going to the hunting camp every year, and he never took a gun.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Anna (Goode) Kamla; wife, Katherine (Flynn) Kamla; brother, Robert G. Kamla; sister, Ailene Aitken

He is survived by his daughter, Jo Daniels-Shay of Kalispell; sons, Jack Kamla of Havre, Tim Kamla of Gallup, N.M.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials in John's honor may be made to a personal choice.
