ROCKY BOY - James Albert "Peachum" Wells, 79, World War II veteran and retired carpenter, died Thursday, March 14, 2003, at a Havre Hospital of natural causes.
The wake service was Sunday at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church. The funeral Mass was scheduled for 11 a.m. today at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church. The
burial was to follow at the Rocky Boy Cemetery.
Peachum was born on March 14, 1923, to Pete Laundrie and Anna Rose Descharme at the Rocky Boy Agency. His stepfather, James Descharme, raised him. He attended schools at Sangrey School at Rocky Boy.
On Aug. 26, 1942, Peachum entered the U.S. Army. He served his country during World War II.
On April 28, 1947, he married Cecelia St. Marks at Chester.
Peachum was an independent carpenter, traveling with his family throughout California, Montana and Idaho. He retired in 2000. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and visiting with the elders of his tribe.
Peachum was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, James DeCharme; daughters, Gloria Wells Henry in 2002, Justina Marie Wells; sons, Peter James Wells, James Albert Wells Jr. and Gary Matthew Wells; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild
Survivors include his wife, Cecilia St. Marks Wells of Rocky Boy; children; Arlene Huntsinger of Rocky Boy, Evelyn Wells of Rocky Boy, Theresa (Dale) Estridge of Plymouth, Ohio, Phylliss (Keith) Rock of Great Falls, Gerald (Amanda) Wells of Great Falls, Ronnie Wells of North Dakota; brothers, Mickey DeCharme of Missoula, Charlie DeCharme of Butte, Joey DeCharme of Arizona; sisters, Linda DeCharme of Rocky Boy, Jeanie DeCharme of Rocky Boy, Bea Olson of Saskatchewan, Canada, Marian Larson of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
