BIG SANDY - Donald LeRoy "Donnie" Fox, 65, retired Air Force communication tech sergeant, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at his mother's residence in Big Sandy of pancreatic cancer.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Fifth Avenue Christian Church with the Rev. Rowlie Hutton officiating.
Luncheon will follow the funeral service at the church. Burial with full military honors will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Big Sandy Cemetery.
Donnie was born Feb. 28, 1938, to Inez Lucille Huestis at the Florence Crittenton Home in Helena. His stepfather is Jerry Halter. He was educated at Washington and Lincoln-McKinley grade schools in Havre, two years of high school in Missoula and two years of high school in Stevensville.
On Jan. 1, 1963, Donnie entered the U.S. Air Force. He served his country in Korea, Italy, England, Germany, the Pentagon, Oklahoma; Dayton, Ohio, and Del Rio, Texas. He achieved the rank of communications tech sergeant before retiring with 23 years of dedicated service. Donnie worked at both the Trapper's Kettle and DK's Lounge in Williston, N.D., for 17 years. He went to Fort Harrison for treatment of his cancer, then moved in with his mother in Big Sandy to die.
Donnie enjoyed horses, airplanes, and fly-fishing.
Donnie was preceded in death by the aunt and uncle who raised him, Ed and Delilah Tangmo; and other uncles, aunts, cousins, and his grandparents.
Survivors include his special friend, Winifred Bartlett of Williston, N.D.; mother, Inez L. Huestis Halter of Big Sandy; stepfather, Jerry Halter of Dixon; friends from the Trapper's Kettle and DK's Lounge, both of Williston, N.D.; sisters, Donna (Loren) Jenkins of Big Sandy, Carolyn (Steve) Norris of Joplin, Joey (Harley) Hettick of Dixon, and Gay (Ron) Pearson of Big Sandy; brothers, Butch (Andrea) Halter of Helena and Jack (Bev) Halter of Havre.
Memorials in Donnie's honor may be made to Florence Crittenton Home and Services of Montana, 830 North Warren, Helena, MT 59601.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
