State hosting series of Hi-Line meetings on U.S. 2

The Montana Department of Transportation is holding the first series of public meetings for the environmental impact statement for the widening of U.S. Highway 2 between Havre and Fort Belknap.

The open house meetings will be held at the following locations along the corridor, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. each night:

Sept. 30, in the Student Union Building Ballroom at the Montana State University-Northern campus in Havre

Oct. 1 at the Chinook Motor Inn in Chinook

Oct. 2 at the Harlem City Hall

Oct. 3 at the Bingo Hall in Fort Belknap.

The purpose of the meetings is to introduce the community to the project and give people an opportunity to voice concerns and ask questions. Officials from MDT and project consultant David Evans and Associates will attend.

The goal of the Highway 2 project is to develop a preferred alternative that improves safety and efficiency and considers economic impacts along the corridor. The 45-mile project begins at the eastern city limits of Havre and ends at Highway 66 in Fort Belknap.
