MEDICINE HAT, Alberta The Havre Comets traveled to the Medicine Hat baseball tournament this last weekend hoping to start a winning streak.
The Comets won their first game Friday, dropped the next two and came back with a win on Sunday to finish the tournament with a split in four games.
HAVRE 10, MEDICINE HAT 7
The Comets scored six runs on four hits in the second inning, leaving the Knights with a deficit too big to come back from.
Daine Solomon sparked Havre with a two-run home run in the second, giving the Comets a 7-1 lead.
Tyler Thompson drove in the first two runs of the second with an RBI double. Steve Heberly followed with a triple, driving in Thompson.
Garrett Drake followed with an RBI single, scoring Heberly from third. Drake later scored on the homer by Solomon.
The Comets only had nine hits in the game, but capitalized on six Medicine Hat errors.
HAVRE 8, MALTA 2
The Comets sent nine men to the plate in the fourth inning and scored four runs to seal the victory for Havre.
After Ben Mader was hit by a pitch and Chris Chandler singled, Bobby Bergren walked to load the bases. Tyson Roe drove home Mader on a sacrifice fly to center, giving the Comets the lead at 3-2.
Bergren later scored on an error by the Malta first baseman, giving Havre a two-run lead.
Heberly then singled and Mark Benjamin followed with an RBI double, capping Havre's four-run inning.
The Comets came back to score two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Chandler led the Comets going 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Benjamin also added two hits for Havre, two stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored.
SOUTH ALBERTA 12, HAVRE 2
The Giants sent nine men to the plate in the first inning, scoring nine runs and putting the game out of reach early.
The Giants were only able to get eight hits against Heberly, but a combination of walks and Havre errors allowed South Alberta to come away with the win.
Ian Spencer went 3-for-3 for Havre with an RBI.
SWIFT CURRENT 16, HAVRE 3
The Indians belted out 14 hits to give Havre its second loss of the day.
The Comets scored three runs in the third inning on an RBI triple by Heberly, an RBI single by Drake and an RBI double by Spencer, making the score 4-3 in favor of the Indians.
But the Indians came back in the bottom of the third and scored seven runs, sparked by a lead-off home run to dash the Comets hope of pulling out the win.
