  • Hello, God. It's me, Mara.

    Updated Aug 14, 2020

You know, Lord, it never seems to fail, once it is summertime, detours seem to be opened and “Road Construction Ahead” signs are woven into the scenery along busy roadways. With friends, this last week, we sure did come across some of those very signs in our travels, beginning with “Rough Road” and “Watch For Flagman.” These signs gave us fair warning as we traveled along. “Caution – Abrupt Edge” signs also warned of impending danger. Updated Aug 14, 2020

Many of the ideas and scriptures for this article are from the devotional “God Wants You To Win!” by world champion calf roper Jeff Copenhaver. Just this morning, my wife and I were walking down to the church and remembering some of the trials that the Lord had safely brought us through in the past. As I write this, we just celebrated Resurrection Sunday yesterday. We were not able to have a live chu...

    Updated Aug 14, 2020

Out our way, there are two good rules to keep in mind when working stock: “Use your head” and “Stay alert.” The consequences of not doing so can be painful and even fatal. As I meditated on what the Lord would have me write today, the image of an incident up in the ranch country above Big Sandy came to mind. I was visiting a friend who was in the corral with a few cow/calf units being a little bit foolish. He started teasing a young calf and the momma was getting agitated by it. She lowered her head, shuffled her hooves...

  • Pastor's Corner: Afraid? Stay in the boat

    Updated Aug 14, 2020

Fear can be a powerful motivator. Fear can make brave people do cowardly things, and it can make timid people do brave things. Fear can make you do one thing in one situation, and the opposite thing in another situation. Fear of heights might have kept me off of the church office roof a few weeks ago when our handyman invited me up, but a few years ago, when I noticed rain dripping on the sofa during a storm at my childhood home, fear of a worsening problem motivated me to climb onto the roof with bricks and a tarp all by...
