  • Out Our Way: The Lesson of Ted - Matthew 12:30

    Updated Oct 8, 2021

Out our way, working cows is a team effort, especially on those big round up days. We really count on each other to get the job done, and a successful gathering points to that team effort. None of us could do it alone. But, now and then, something goes wrong and instead of working together for the common goal, someone goes their own way and ends up working against the goal. A case in point I have often shared is the time someone drove his truck into the herd as we were...

As far as we can tell, humans are the only species that considers "Why?" or "How did that happen?" Through the ages, we place our wonderings into our stories. First, stories told by firelight and passed down to children sitting at the knees of an elder. At some point, humanity also began to record our stories as...

  • Hello, God. It's me, Mara.

    Updated Oct 8, 2021

Near the edge of the property, the cow might discover some cool fresh grass under a shade tree. Just beyond, there might be a broken-down part of a fence and right there was a tasty clump of foliage. Then the cow might push farther beyond the fence and out to the road. It has slowly "nibbled" its way...

As we grow old, and our hair turns gray; what's in the future for us of clay? Gone are the days of vigor and vim, our limbs are weak and our eyes grow dim. Where's the excitement of yesteryear, where is the future that once was clear? We sit along, all the live-long day, are we just waiting to pass away? Lord, we ache with every kind of hurt, empty and lonely and lower than dirt. Most of our colleagues are dead and gone; why, oh why, Lord, do we linger on? Ravaged by fire, we'...
