We thought we would miss the festivities, which just shows how much we still have to learn about Mexico. I knew a little about the Day of the Dead. I’d seen the elaborate skeleton costumes and the cemeteries filled with flowers and families. I figured it would be all over. The date for Havre’s Holiday Tree Lighting, now rebranded as the Holiday Stroll, has been moved from the Saturday after Black Friday to the first Saturday of December, a change Havre Area Chamber of Commerce Director Jessica Fagerbakke says is permanent. The second reason, she said, is because Chinook has their Parade of Lights g...
While Republicans did not do as well as they hoped on the national stage in the midterms, Montana seems very likely to see a Republican supermajority in the state Legislature, a prospect Democrats were dreading. Montana’s election results have yet to be canvassed and thus remain unofficial, but if current tallies hold, seats picked up in the Senate will increase GOP control there and their commanding control of the House seems to have only gotten stronger as well. Democratic candidates around the state, including in Hill C...

Oh, we still wear the boots, spurs, and chaps; still ride horses and carry a lariat on our saddle, but these days we are more likely to be the owners, family, or ranch hands. Except for the round up and moving back and forth between the summer and winter past...
Did you know that there are only two talking animals in the Bible? You can probably guess the first ... that's right, the serpent that speaks in the Garden of Eden. The second talking animal is the trusty donkey of a non-Israelite prophet named Balaam, found in Numbers 22, and if you guessed that, then extra points to you for knowing your Bible! If you didn't, that's OK, too. The story of Balaam and his donkey doesn't appear in the lectionary, and I don't think it's a regular...
