Since Dec. 19, a crew from the Montana Department of Transportation has been trimming branches away from power lines, street lights and the road, and they have left some of the trees almost completely bare. Mariann E. Miller of Havre, 76, RN, BSN, died of natural causes, December 21, 2018. She is survived by husband, Dr. Frank Miller, sons, Eric, Kurt and Gary, and daughter Sharon. Editor, Tree topping, or removing a major part of a large tree’s crown by cutting branches to stubs or to the trunk — see photo on the front page of the Havre Daily News 12-20 paper — is never an acceptable part of proper tree maintenance. If this is what is necessary, then the tree should be removed. Topping severely injures and infects trees, sometimes killing them outright.
