    DEER LODGE - Montana's parole board has the chance to correct a mistake made when Barry Beach was sentenced to 100 years in prison without parole in the 1979 beating death of a high school classmate, his attorneys said Tuesday.   • Judge rejects some Huston motions

    A federal judge has started ruling against some of a slurry of motions filed early this month by a defendant in a Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation embezzlement case. U.S. District Court Judge Brian Morris agreed with the prosecution that many of the motions filed by Shad Huston of Havre were premature and unnecessary.     On the opening day of the 2014 Frontier Conference Golf Championships, the 2013-14 Frontier Men's and Women's All-Conference teams were announced. Montana State University-Northern senior Justin Newton was named Second-Team All-Conference for the season. It was the second time Newton, who came to Northern from North Idaho College two years ago, has earned All-Conference accolades.     Thomas Gruber, Havre Track Havre High senior Thomas Gruber has been a model of consistency for the Blue Pony track and field team so far this spring. Gruber, who is a returning All-Conference pole vaulter, has placed in the Top Five at every meet he’s entered so far.   • Havre High students bring a Taste of Jazz to Havre

    An audience heard performances ranging from big band songs to classic jazz during an annual fundraiser Monday benefitting the Havre High School music programs. At the close of the annual Taste of Jazz concert Havre High choir teacher Dave Johnke thanked the Friends of Music organization for the work it does supporting the music programs, including providing college scholarships and scholarships to allow students to attend music camps.   • 250 trees given to students at Pepin Park

    Sara Sieglock, the secretary of Havre Parks and Recreation, said they gave out around 250 trees Monday morning to school children. Second-graders from Rocky Boy and Havre were given the option of taking home an Arnold Hawthorn, Black Cherry, Amur Maple or Common Lilac tree sapling as part of the city's Arbor Day celebrations.
