  • Letter to the Editor: Our loving God sets standards to live by

    Updated Nov 24, 2014

Editor: Pam Hillery's statement that (her) "God is a loving God" saddens me. It implies that those who oppose same-sex marriage believe in a God who isn't. But our God is also loving; He is also just, and He knows that boundaries are necessary. Or was He just kidding when He handed down those pesky commandments? At any rate, I have been unable to find Pam's nonjudgmental God in the Bible. When we live our lives to please ourselves, are we guilty of idolatry? Are we loving ourselves above all, rather than God? Is it...

The Dillon Beavers are once again kings of Class A. Jason Ferris scored on a 22-yard run with 2:30 left in the game, and J.D. Ferris completed a two-point conversion pass to Nate Simkins, lifting the Beavers to a 29-28 win over the Maroons. • Glacier stuns Great Falls

    Chris Peterson|Updated Nov 24, 2014

It had been 49 days since the Glacier Nationals had tasted victory and when it’s been that long, you begin to wonder if they remember how it feels to be on the winning side. But, last Friday in Great Falls, the Nationals got that wining feeling again at the most unlikely time. In the first of back-to-back road games, the Nationals knocked off the Great Falls by the score of 2-1 thanks to a short-handed goal with 37 seconds remaining in the game by Joshua Larson. The loss w...

  • Lights beat NCAA DII power in Idaho

    George Ferguson|Updated Nov 24, 2014

The Montana State University-Northern Lights are in the middle of a brutal and long stretch of games away from the Armory Gymnasium. And never was that more evident than this past weekend in Caldwell, Idaho. But, life on the road wasn’t all bad for the Lights, as they took down a strong NCAA Division II team Friday night, before falling to one of the top NAIA DII teams on its home floor Saturday night. Northern bested Northwest Nazarene 80-68 Friday night, before falling to C...

  • Nothing can diminish Chinook's season

    Chris Peterson|Updated Nov 24, 2014

WIBAUX — High school football is about a lot of things. But, three of the most important are winning, learning life lessons and making memories, all of which the Chinook Sugarbeeters did this season. Chinook may not have won the state championship, and yes, they will have to settle for being the runner-up in Class C 8-man football after a 46-14 defeat at the hands of the Wibaux Longhorns in the championship game Saturday in Wibaux, but that shouldn’t diminish what the Bee...

  • State title not to be for Sugarbeeters

    Chris Peterson|Updated Nov 24, 2014
    1

WIBAUX — For the last three weeks, everything has gone right for the Chinook Sugarbeeters. They won three straight playoff games and were one win away from a state championship. But Saturday, Chinook simply couldn’t catch a break, and in the end, the day belonged to Wibaux. On a cold, rainy day in Wibaux, the Longhorns forced five Chinook turnovers and proved to be the better team in every facet on their way to a 46-14 victory over the Beeters in the Class C 8-man state cha...

  • Maroon Mauling: Griz 34, Cats 7

    George Ferguson|Updated Nov 24, 2014

MISSOULA — The Montana Grizzlies and Montana State Bobcats are two very good football teams. And usually, when they meet on the gridiron, it’s pretty easy to predict that the game will be a battle to the end. But, it’s doubtful anyone saw what happened in the 114th edition of the Brawl of the Wild coming ahead of time. Saturday afternoon, in front of a crowd of 26,304 inside Missoula’s Washington-Grizzly Stadium, the No. 13 Grizzlies shocked the No. 12 Bobcats, 34-7, in a sh...
