  • November Masters is cool, but it's also a reminder of how bleak things really are

    George Ferguson|Updated Nov 13, 2020

To say 2020 has been surreal would be putting it a bit mildly. In fact, it would be the understatement of the year. And it’s all because of a virus, a global pandemic that just won’t let up. Of course, you’d think we’d all be getting used to how strange 2020 is by now. After all, we’ve been at this COVID thing for quite some time. But, getting used to it would be giving in to COVID, and I’m not going to speak for anybody but myself — and I’m not giving in, or getting used to...

Or you are barely able to walk due to intense chronic pain, only to find your hip replacement surgery is canceled because your hospital lacks the bed space or staff to help you. • View from the North 40: The mad, mad world of things and stuff

    Pam Burke|Updated Nov 13, 2020

A May 31, 2017, headline on NBCNews.com says, “One in Four Americans Has a Clutter Problem.” I know that’s true because my husband and I are related to every last one of ones with the problem, evidence that my point has validity. I don’t know this scientifically, but I have a pretty good hunch that by the time we are of adult age we start having moments when we think about our parents and grandparents getting older, ourselves getting older, too. We intellectually underst...

  • Experienced Longhorns on the verge

    George Ferguson|Updated Nov 13, 2020

They've been here before. In fact, it was just one year ago that the Fort Benton Longhorns stood on the doorstep of getting to play for a Class C 8-Man state championship. That semifinal game last November against eventual state champion Faiview didn't go Fort Benton's way, but now, the Longhorns are a year older, a year bigger, a year strong, and perhaps, even hungrier. And that's what unbeaten Fort Benton will lean on Saturday when the top-ranked Longhorns (8-0) host No. 2 F...

  • Out Our Way: Charlie's Trailer - Psalm 98

    Updated Nov 13, 2020

Out our way, the land and sky are beautiful, but not always friendly. One day the weather is mild and pleasant and the next an Alberta Clipper comes roaring down covering the land and water with snow and ice. You learn to be prepared for any weather out here. You keep blankets, a small shovel. and a bed roll in the trunk of the car starting in early fall and through the spring. You tie your slicker behind the saddle even though the sky is bright and no clouds are visible. I...
