    MATT GOURAS Associated Press

HELENA, Mont. The simmering tensions between Republicans and Democrats erupted, somewhat surprisingly, over a bill that modifies the way elections are run. The House had abruptly changed its mind on the proposal after endorsing the proposal a day earlier. The bill failed after man...

  • Havre, it really is the people

    Tristan

Editor: Are people from Havre, the nicest people on the planet? I'll say yes, based on last weekend's trip to your great town for a midget hockey tournament. I have three examples. First, the members of the Havre Hockey Association treated us like family. They helped answer all our questions and provided assistance at every turn. Secondly, the hotel staff at the Best Western bent over backwards to make our stay perfect, including providing an extra room to air out stinky hockey gear. If you have ever smelled hockey gear,...

    Tristan

Signs warning motorists that the city of Havre bars cellphone use of any kind while driving are now at the four major entrances to the city. People entering the city limits are now aware of the ban. It's hard to imagine, given the widespread coverage and constant controversy, that any resident drivers would be unaware of the ordinance. Havre was in the forefront of the progressive movement to ensure safety on city streets. Helena and Bozeman have recently adopted similar measures. The I's are dotted and the T's are crossed....
