HELENA - Our beloved mother and grandmother, Julia Svendsen, left us Nov. 14, 2013, for her heavenly home. Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Hogeland Lutheran Church. Arrangements have been made with Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook. She was born in Caledonia, Minn., on Sept. 21, 1915. Julia was raised in Hogeland (the farm) by Walter and Alma Wing. Elizabeth “Bette” Killian was born Aug. 11, 1930, the second of four daughters born to Harry E. and Wilma (Varner) Anderson. Bette was raised in Chinook, graduating from high school in 1948. She attended Northern Montana College and spent many years working as a legal secretary for various firms in Oklahoma and Texas. In 1956 she married Marion E. Killian in Helena, Mont. Thomas "Todd" Gummer born Aug 20, 1923, in Gildford, Mont., passed away Nov. 14, 2013, in Spokane, Wash. He is survived by his wife, Helen; and two daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Rick Lockert and Debbie and Gary McMurtery. He is also survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. U.S. Sen. Jon Tester is calling out the federal Food and Drug Administration, saying the agency is ignoring the intent of a law he passed in 2011 to protect small farms that market product locally. Tester said in a press release that FDA drafts of policies could force farmers with less than $500,000 gross annual sales who primarily market locally to use the same requirements as large corporations. The chief legal counsel of the state commissioner of securities and insurance Friday said the rollout of the Affordable Care Act and changes made since the rollout have caused some serious problems. It was a great ride for the Chinook Sugarbeeter volleyball team. But all good things must come to an end. Chinook was eliminated from the 2013 Class C state volleyball tournament by Jordan Friday afternoon in Bozeman. Jordan beat the Beeters by scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-20.
