  • Hello, God. It's me, Mara.

    Updated Oct 9, 2023

You know Lord, a couple cousins shared what their girls were looking for in boyfriends to make the boys super husbands. The cousins got a kick out of listening to that chatter - sensing that their girls had noticed several neighbors, some as super families, some just so-so. The cousins giggle, wondered if maybe they, as moms, should make a list to give to YOUNG mothers to encourage their little boys. C.Z. and M.C. took a look at their own husbands, making some comments. C.Z....

  • Pastor's Corner: Prepare for the storm

    Updated Oct 9, 2023

Greetings my fellow Hi-Liners, As the first week of October brings in some cooler weather with the changing of the season, we see God working in His creation from the leaves changing color, getting ready to go dormant for the winter to the animals putting on their winter coats. We see the geese starting to fly south for the winter, as the seagulls, terns and pelicans have already moved along. God is preparing His creation for protection from the storms that will come to our...

  • Lights hoping for turnaround against EOU

    George Feguson|Updated Oct 9, 2023

The last time the Montana State University-Northern Lights won a Frontier Conference game, it was the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers who felt the brunt of that victory. The Lights are now hoping that history repeats itself. Northern beat EOU in a conference game two years ago to snap a long Frontier losing streak, and the Lights (0-3, 1-3) will try and snap another streak when they host EOU (1-2, 1-4) in a league matchup Saturday at Tilleman Field. Northern will also be looking t...

  • Hill County Commission votes to amend school levy

    Patrick Johnston|Updated Oct 6, 2023

The Hill County Commission voted Thursday to amend their public school levy from 95 mills to 77.9 mills, bucking Gov. Greg Gianforte’s Department of Revenue, which directed the counties to collect the full 95 mills in an apparent break with tradition for Hill County. For many years the county has collected 95 mills for the state’s school equalization efforts, which supports schools in lower income areas, but a spike in property valuations has caused the value of those mills to rise dramatically. Counties across the sta...

  • Looking out my Backdoor: October is the best month!

    Sondra Ashton|Updated Oct 6, 2023

September ended here in my little patch of Mexico with record-breaking heat. The heat I can handle. The humidity is brutal. Early this morning, 70 F, humidity in the 90s, go hang laundry on the line, come inside with sweaty wet hair. In the afternoon, when it is 90, when I return to the house with dry laundry, I’m hot but dry. When we Montanans say, “Yes, but it is dry heat,” we know what we are talking about. October will be different. Won’t it? And the critters, oh, my, the...

Permitting reform is crucial to ensure the clean energy transition happens fast enough to get projects up and running and ward off the extreme weather, fire, and smoke events that affect all of us in Montana. We need to build transmission lines, improve early community involvement, and quickly build and deploy new clean energy projects. • Grief Poem - 'Twas Hard to Part

    Updated Oct 6, 2023

The sun does rise, then later, sets, we watch the Seasons change. We're born to die - but some folks think, that THAT is all so strange. 'They've' only gone ahead of us - they've NOT left us behind. Although we can't be with them now, they're in our hearts and mind. The day will come, we'll meet again on Heaven's distant shore. We'll walk again, hand holding hand, jointly - forever more. If memories bring us closer, dear, we're never far apart. For you are always in our though...
