Havre Public Schools Superintendent Andy Carlson told the school board Tuesday night that although the current high school class is the largest in years, long-term trends showing a decline in student population make him uneasy. The trend is worrisome, according to Carlson, because the level of funding a school district receives from the state is partially set on a per pupil basis. The official student count will not be out until October, but early numbers provided by Carlson...

A crowd of people gathered in front of the Vande Bogart Library at Montana State...

The city of Havre may end up making a $1,000 contribution to the North Central Montana Transit System instead of the $15,000 the system asked for. City Council Member Pam Hillery said she scoured the proposed city budget and could find “very little wiggle room” to find excess funds for the bus system. So, she proposed an amendment to the proposed city budget at tonight’s meeting to give the system “It’s not much but it shows we support them,” Hillery said at Monday night’s City Council meeting. She said the spending plan...

The 2015 high school volleyball season is in its infancy right now. But last week, the second week of the season, was a chance for teams to get a lot of time on the court in. In Chinook, the two-day Chinook Invitational featured some great competition from the Class C and B ranks. In attendance were teams like Malta,...
While many teams along the Hi-Line began their 2015 football seasons Aug. 28 or Aug. 29, the Chinook Sugarbeeters were one team that waited an extra week. And after another dominant performance, it looks like the extra time practicing was well worth it. The Beeters, who are the defending Class C 8-Man Northern Division champions, as well as the state runner-up from a season ago, got their conference title defense started off on the right foot with a dominant 54-0 thrashing of...
And just like that, it was over. No, for many, playing golf is far from over. The promise of a strong El Nino pattern through the fall will have golfers on the links for several months still. But, when the final putt dropped during last week's men's league championship match at Prairie Farms Golf Course, the competitive golf season in Havre, at least for the adults, did come to an end. And, so too must this column come to an end, until next spring anyway. So in my final From...
