Herb and Peggy Hanson were involved in a motorcycle crash. The couple were on a motorcycle ride near Cooke City, on the Beartooth Highway, for the Beartooth Rally when the crash happened. A section of the intersection of Second Street and Third Avenue has been blocked off this afternoon due to street repair, Havre Public Works Director Dave Peterson said. He said the intersection was the location where Havre would put up it's annual Christmas Tree. But because the city no longer displays a tree at that location, he added, it had been patched with asphalt that deteriorated over the years. Pertussis — better known as whooping cough — has swept across the state, with health departments diagnosing almost 12 times as many cases as last year at this time, and two cases have been diagnosed in Hill County by the end of last week, Hill County Health Department Kim Larson said. “Right now, Montana has 442 cases of pertussis this year,” she said. “At the same time last year we only had 37 in the state of Montana, so there is a big increase this year.” Pertussis is not a curable disease. Hill County Weed Control District Supervisor Terry Turner Tuesday gave an update on an issue he raised Thursday at the month's Hill County County Officials meeting - three horses died from eating water hemlock found in Bear Paw Mountain pastures. Tanner Joseph Walker was sentenced to six months probation after pleading guilty in a plea agreement that included dismissing a felony charge. Walker was charged May 14, 2018, with a felony count of aggravated burglary and a misdemeanor count of assault after a person reported he walked into a house and punched a person. Tevin James Barron was sentenced to two years probation and ordered to pay more than $3,000 in restitution after he pleaded guilty to writing a string of checks on a closed account. Barron was charged Oct. 30, 2018, with a felony count of issuing bad checks by common scheme after multiple Havre businesses reported he had written checks on the account.
