And among the many things the Lights are changing under new head coach Andrew Rolin this season, being better on the defensive side of the ball is certainly one of them. But what will be a young defense in 2018 will still have its work cut out it for it, as Northern has very few returning starters under new defensive coordinator Jake Chestnut, and y...

  • Obituary - John Wesley Contway

    Updated Aug 21, 2018

John Wesley Contway's aliens finally came for him on August 7, 2018. I'm sure you saw or felt their gossamer wings fluttering up to the mother ship. He was smiling all the way as he'd waited so long for this final road trip. So long, in fact, that his alien humor for the past few years had begun to wear thin on those of us who love him and wanted him to stay. It was a smooth trip with no interference from Trump or his staff, as some of you may have expected. Now, on to the... Full story

  • 2018 FRONTIER CONFERENCE FOOTBALL PREVIEW

    George Ferguson|Updated Aug 21, 2018

If there was one word that could sum up the 2017 Frontier Conference football season, bloodbath would certainly be appropriate. There were so many good teams in the Frontier that it actually turned out to be a detriment to the league come playoff time. With everybody beating up on each other for three months, by the time November rolled around, only stalwart Southern Oregon was left standing. Now, it's about time to start new, though, but the same question remains. Is the...

  • U.S.-Canadian partnership vital in addressing illegal fentanyl crisis

    Updated Aug 21, 2018

Lost amidst the flurry of tariff-related disputes between the United States and Canada is an under-addressed and far weightier issue than steel. It is a lethal, but largely preventable threat: the trade and illegal importation of counterfeit drugs, most notably those containing fentanyl. Trade between the U.S. and Canada exceeds $650 billion each year, but beyond this legal trade looms the danger of illicitly traded goods. Criminals take advantage of our soft border, which strong trade has created. Some illicit goods like...
