    A former state and tribal elected official was sentenced to 7½ years in federal prison and ordered to pay$667,183 in restitution for his role in a fraud, bribery and embezzlement scheme at Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation. Tony Belcourt also was ordered to spend 3 years on supervised release following his release from federal prison. His wife, Hailey Belcourt, was sentenced in a relatively short session following her husband’s 3½ hour hearing.     Mary Jane LaMere, 85, of Rocky Boy, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at Northern Montana Hospital of natural causes. Wake services will begin at 5 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, and will continue until her traditional funeral service, which will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014.     Montana State University-Northern's head football coach resigned Wednesday. Mark Samson was placed on administrative leave with pay Tuesday as the university conducted an investigation into financial issues related to the running of the summer football camp. He put in his resignation Wednesday in everybody's interest, he said in his statement.     I attended the Dawson County Fair with my daughter Dee Dee and her family. It was touch and go whether there would even be a Saturday night rodeo. Black clouds had rolled in, covering the sky, temperatures dropped, thunder roared and lightning struck as rain pounded the ground for hours. Too dramatic?     A change of plea hearing in federal court in Great Falls this morning for Shad Huston turned into a trial scheduling hearing. After Huston’s attorney, Michael Sherwood of Missoula, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Carl Rostad told U.S. District Judge Brian Morris they had been unable to come to an agreement with all three cases filed against Huston, Morris set the trial for Sept. 29.     The fall sports season officially got underway Wednesday night as the Montana State University-Northern volleyball team took the floor for its annual Maroon/White game at the Armory Gymnasium.
