As a person who works for the county and has a job to be on top of information, and as a person who wants to be the most effective in my job, here are just a few short points I want to make. First of all the COVID-19 virus is real. It affects people differently but the underlying fact about this is, it is real. Secondly, in our counties across Montana it is the “right or wrong,” “not Ok,” “it is Ok,” “it’s taking my rights away,” “what about that guy’s rights” type of balking that is making health departments and emergen...

By Emily Mayer After a four-month hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is my great pleasure to resume my column in the Havre Daily News. I missed reading the news from 100 years ago and sharing it with you. As the year goes on, I have a lot of catching up to do, but for now we will check out what was happening this week a century ago. The Hill County Democrat reported Hill County rancher A. B. Livermore escaped prison. The Democrat printed in its Aug. 5, 1920, edition: A. B. LIVERMORE ESCAPES PRISON A. B. Livermore, a...
Legion Field is a historic stadium, not just on the Hi-Line, but in Montana, too. Decades of baseball have been in the ballpark on the hill, where memories have been made for many. The rich history surrounding Legion Field is definitely massive, especially when it comes to the work that has been put into the ballpark over the years. Like many stadiums and complexes, Legion Field went through many different changes throughout time. As the years went on, there were updates that...

Now, as it happens, Charlie and I rode for Big Mike. One roundup Charlie was on “Jet” and I was on “Doc” — good cow ponies — but Mike and his boys came out with four wheelers. They covered a lot more territory and moved a great deal faster than we did. In sheer numbers of cattle herded that day, they were far more successful than we were. I recall...
