Brown said the system would pull data from county systems displaying budgets, b...

  • View from the North 40: The trouble with COVID

    Pam Burke|Updated Aug 6, 2021

The trouble with COVID is that it is a public relations nightmare. Where’s the angle? The hook? For starters, the name. COVID-19 hardly strikes fear in the heart of mankind let alone respect for its power. Even when some people were calling it a flu, it was, as the misnomer was intended to do, hard to take it seriously. Black Death, though, now there’s a name a PR person could do something with. Shoot, even the kids’ plague-tribute song “Ring around the Rosie” has lasted ne...

However, Montana State University-Northern volleyball head coach Jerry Wagner is optimistic for this fall season as the Skylights played their best at the end of the season, including a postseason victory on the road. "My expectations are really high and that's built off of who I know is coming in and who I know I already have...

  • Out Our Way: Teamwork - Ephesians 4: 1- 16

    Updated Aug 6, 2021

Out our way, we know the value of teamwork. Whether it is in sports, working the land, riding herd, or serving the Lord, it is a team effort. I recall in my youth a few "superstars" who, despite their personal talent, got cut from the team because they weren't team players. Hugging the ball instead of passing to an open teammate lost us points and games. As a kid, I helped with wheat harvest and saw the teamwork between the combine and the grain truck. The combine cut the...

  • Pastor's Corner: Be the salt!

    Updated Aug 6, 2021

Then human beings reach the age of 2, they have two favorite words. One of the words is "No!" and the second favorite word is "Mine!" This is ironic to those who are parents because we all know that 2-year-olds have not worked, earned, or merited their possessions. The seduction to accumulate possessions begins at an early stage. One author wrote about the seduction of stuff, "Many people cannot bring themselves to get rid of any of their stuff. You might require a closet...

  • Hello, God. It's me, Mara.

    Updated Aug 6, 2021

Just sharing about a Grandpa, Lord: Grandpa was 90 years old, sitting feebly on the patio bench. He didn't move, he just sat there with his head down, staring at his hands. Granddaughter, Alexa, sat down beside him. He didn't acknowledge her presence, making Alexa wonder if he was OK. Finally, not wanting to disturb him but wanting to check on him at the same time, she asked him if he was OK. He raised his head and looked at her, smiled and said, "Yes, I'm fine, thanks for...

  • Grief Poem - Partings Come

    Updated Aug 6, 2021

Another one has "flown" off and now is free from pain. He/she now is safe in Jesus's arms but soon we'll meet again. A wonderful journey he/she took, we say a LOUD AMEN! Someday we, too, will journey there; we'll be with "them" again! His/her life was full - a helping hand of many kindly deeds. Sincere and true in heart and mind, to all who were in need. It seems so strange that those we need and those we loved the best, Are just the ones God calls away - and takes them home...
