The courts, however, were filling that void by naturalizing many new American citizens. Canada, Norway, Russia, Great Britain, Austria, Sweden, Denmark and Germany were our newest citizens’ place of birth, most of them being from Norway. They were all brought here seeking what most people sought — economic opportunity. Whether it was a “fr...
I don’t want to be thought of as less than a serious amateur scientist, but at some point my home-based research projects always come to loggerheads with what is widely considered to be real life, and then I have to choose between being enthralled and being civilized. Yes, this means I have a spider growing up in my bathroom again this year. No, I don’t particularly like spiders, but I’m fascinated by watching the spider grow from a little eight-legged smidgeon of arach...

Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever. We recently celebrated the Fourth of July. Now the smell and sight of fireworks is just a memory. Some of the garbage from the long weekend still remains in our community however. The prophet Isaiah records, “All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field.” Have you ever con...
Mark 6:30-34 Out our way, it is easy to get busy, especially in the summer when the weather is fine and the sun remains above the horizon so late in the evening. And, of course, in Montana there is so much to do. Fishing, camping, hiking, and riding to name a few. And a great many locals are farmers and ranchers, so of course, the long hours of sunlight also mean extra hours of work. I was discussing this with Goliath the other day and he allowed that more and more people are finding themselves feeling “rode hard and put a...
The Montana State University-Northern women’s basketball team has been one of the standard-bearers of the Frontier Conference for the last several years, including a run of three straight NAIA national tournament appearances. And one big reason why the Skylights are so good in league play is because they are always battled-tested thanks to a tough non-conference schedule. Well, veteran Northern head coach Chris Mouat has put together another tough schedule, which means, the S...
