In a lengthy discussion after an otherwise short meeting, the Great Northern Fair Board at its monthly meeting Tuesday talked about how to raise more funds to improve the fair and the grounds. “If we’re going to grow this thing and improve it, we have to figure out some way (to raise money),” board member Gus Sharp said. Board member Missy Boucher, who also sits on the fair funding foundation board, said if people have ideas, the fair board and foundation could give them a try. “We can’t keep saying we’ve got to do it, we’v...
Few people attended a hearing in Havre Tuesday on a proposal to expand the area of the Hill County Refuse District, but most of the comments on the record opposed the idea. The Hill County Park Board last...

Hill and Chouteau counties, as of this morning, were not listed in a flood watch or flood warning status. Eastern...
For nearly six years I have called Havre home. I have family here, I have met a lot of great people here, I spent the first couple years of my marriage here, my wife finished her teaching degree at Montana State University-Northern, and the Havre Daily News gave me a shot fresh out of college when other newspapers were busy with layoffs and downsizing. It truly was time well spent, and I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work and live here. That makes leaving...
