    Participants can now preregister for the Festival Days Run/Walk, scheduled for Sept. 19. The event is open to runners and walkers of all ages. Race day registration will start at 9 a.m., with the 5K run/walk starting at 10 a.m. and the 1-mile run/walk at 11 a.m. All events will start and finish at the Montana State University-Northern 11th Street east parking lot. Another summer of golf league action wrapped up on Wednesday night at BCGC as the Havre men's golf league concluded their 2004 playoffs.     It may be hard to believe, but after trips to Browning and Belgrade over the past five days, the Havre High golf team's season is now half over. The Ponies recently completed a tournament at East Glacier last Friday and the Belgrade Invitational in Bozeman on Tuesday. "I am pretty happy with where we are at right now," said HHS head coach Carla Bolken.     POLSON - Alice Currie Berthelote, 90, of Polson died on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at St. Luke Extended Care Facility in Ronan.   • Ranchers propose fee on area cattle for predator control

    A local stockgrowers association is trying to increase the budget of a program to reduce the numbers of predators of cattle. The North Central Montana Stockgrowers Association is circulating a petition in Hill, Blaine and Chouteau counties that would add a fee of 50 cents for each head of cattle to the owners' property taxes. The money would go into a county fund to pay for the services of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Services predator control program.   • Landlords sue city of Havre over water bills

    The Havre chapter of the Montana Landlords Association has filed a lawsuit against the city of Havre over a city policy about water-service billing. The lawsuit asks that the 1997 city ordinance that makes landlords responsible for the water bills of renters be declared unconstitutional and that the city pay damages to the landlords. The association filed the suit after trying unsuccessfully for 10 months to convince the Havre City Council to change the ordinance. The landlords said it's not fair to hold them responsible for...

  • County will inspect park cabins

    The Hill County Park Board has scheduled cabin inspections in response to problems with abandoned cabins in Beaver Creek Park, as well as cabins that exceed the total square footage allowed by their lease. Inspections are scheduled for Sept. 30. The board conducts annual inspections, but this year it plans to deal with violations of lease agreements and use the inspections to draft a new set of leasing rules.
