In 1880, Fort Assinniboine was the only major European-American community in what is today Hill County. More than 800 troops were living in the fort on the vast plains of north-central Montana. Jack M. Campbell, beloved husband and father, passed away on May 17, 2015, at St. Patrick Hospital. Jack was born in Malta, Montana, on Dec. 4, 1927.
