  • Out Our Way: Spiritual saddle sores

    Updated Jun 7, 2019

Out our way, the first few hours or days of riding can be pretty painful. I didn’t work the cattle in the winter and seldom rode Doc after November. In late April or early May I would go out and saddle up. Both Doc and I had usually put on some girth over the winter and and I often it took a lot of pulling and kneeing him in the gut to get his cinch secure. The looks he would give me! But then, I found I had trouble getting my foot in the stirrup as my own tummy had spread a bit and got in the way. Even when I finally got my...

  • Imagining Heaven: Prepare for an eternity of serving God

    Updated Jun 7, 2019

Many of the ideas and Scriptures used in this article are from the book “Heaven” by Randy Alcorn. That picture reminds me of Palm Sunday. The singing and celebration that accompanied the dis...

Our June calendar is filled with birthdays and anniversaries of family, friends and loved ones. As we think about dear ones, how about some “gardening thoughts,” which was a poem written for a Valentine sweetheart...

Graham was set to preach the next day, noted Ford, who told this story many times. At the altar call, Graham saw that the man seated in front of him was struggling. Leaning forward, but remaining anonymous, Graham asked if he wanted to go forward and accept Jesus as his Savior. No, the man replied, “I’ll just wait till the big gun pre...

  • Grief Poem - Weeds

    Updated Jun 7, 2019

A gentle nudge sent “us” outside; we saw a bunch of weeds. But there within, not quite hidden, someone had sowed some seeds. Two clusters of pretty flowers had not been smothered out. Tall purple ones, a pretty sight, they had survived the drought. Amid the weeds, the flowers bobbed so gently in the breeze. But like our grief, walled in with shade, like darkness of the trees. But Lord, we know we’re not alone, though that is now we feel, Anxiety makes our hearts “black” — the “sunshine” it did steal. The forest gloom fe...
