This past week brought some much-needed good news for the folks who live and work in Havre and across the Hi-Line. On May 24th, full, daily Amtrak service returned to the Northern tier of our state after painful, short-sighted cuts imposed last year furloughed employees and reduced service to just three days a week. • View from the North 40: Ode to my barn, the home of treasures

    Pam Burke|Updated May 28, 2021

There is something about a barn that speaks to the soul, and I’m not just saying that because I have one — or rather I have both — a barn and a soul. I’ve been working on my barn recently, and it’s given me a lot of time to think on the topic. Barns are kind of the poster children of rural living, literally the image of rural living. I googled it. We had 40 coal trains coming through our rural area daily and when it was dry it was not unusual for a spark from a...

    Updated May 28, 2021

You know, Lord, without hope there seems to be nothing to fight for. Without hope we forget: "God is great. With HIM nothing is impossible." Hope, like seeds, can't grow unless they're planted. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, You, Lord, smile from above and say, "Relax, dear one, it's just a bend, not the end." When You solve our problems, we have faith in Your abilities and when You don't solve our problems, You have faith in our abilities. Could be we're...
