    Updated May 15, 2017

Thirty years ago, the Montana Legislature passed a bill to establish a one-of-a-kind program to conserve Montana’s best wildlife habitat. Habitat Montana, as it is known, has done just that. With over 600,000 acres of conservation easements and fee-title lands owned by the people of Montana, the program has helped conserve areas vital for the continued abundance of elk, deer and hundreds of other species that need a place to call home during the stressful winter months as well as year round. Then, in the nightcap Friday against P...

  • Local netters headed to state

    George Ferguson|Updated May 15, 2017

For a time, it looked like the Chinook Sugarbeeters had a battle on their hands at last week's Northeast B-C girls divisional tennis tournament. But in the end, the Beeters were just too strong. The tournament was held last Thursday and Friday in Havre, and Chinook once again came out on top, scoring 42 points, and sweeping the singles and doubles titles. Chester-Joplin-Inverness put up a strong fight though, scoring 20 points, while the upstart Harlem Wildcats were third with...

However, the result wasn't exactly what they wanted. The Great Falls Outlaws, who had the benefit of playing six games before facing the North Stars, looked sharp, while Havre was rusty. And ultimately, the Outlaws allowed just two hits in an 8-1 victory. "All in all, I thought we did some good things," North Stars...
