Tournament time is coming. So, on the Hi-Line, every game counts. Last week saw area boys basketball cross the halfway point of the regular season, starting with games Tuesday night. The week started with plenty of District 9C action, including the North Star Knights edging Chester-Joplin-Inverness 47-34 in Chester. The Hawks led at halftime, but the Knights held CJI to just 11 points in the second half. Garrett Spicher scored 15 points and Gavin Spicher added 13 for the...
Editor, Edmund Burke (1729-1797), the Anglo-Irish statesman and philosopher is regarded by most political historians as the father of the modern British Conservative. Winston Churchill constantly quoted him in the House of Commons, wrote about him in his books, and saw him as a teller of truths by which to measure himself. Russell Kirk’s 500-page book published in 1953 in the United States was entitled “The Conservative Mind: From Burke to Santayana.” This book is normally cited as the first book outlining the modern Ameri...

If you are a consumer learning of this for the first time, you might be incredulous. The last time you purchased beef from the supermarket, the labels clearly stated “USDA Graded” and “Pr...

Hello everyone, My name is Kason Clark and I am happy to announce that I will be serving as the Havre Daily News sports reporter. I just moved to Havre from Exeter, a small town nestled in California’s Central Valley. This past week in Havre has served as quite the culture shock, as I’ve experienced more snow and sub-zero temperatures in a few days than I had in my entire 23-year life living in Central and Southern California. It will take time getting used to, but I cou...
