  • Ponies take their shot at the streak

    Chris Peterson|Updated Feb 6, 2015

The Havre High girls basketball team normally doesn't put too much stock into non-conference games. The focus of the Blue Ponies is winning the Central A and all their games in conference play. Yet, when the non-conference opponent that lies ahead is the four-time defending Class B state champions in the midst of an incredible 119-game winning streak, it's hard not to take notice. That's why tonight's game on the road against Fairfield will have a bit of a different feel for...

  • Letter to the Editor: Young man proves 'Havre Has It'

    Updated Feb 6, 2015

Editor: Sunday morning when it was so very cold, I noticed the tire pressure light had come on in my car. Living close to the Emporium, I went there for help. A kind and polite employee checked my tire pressure and filled the one that was low with air from the compressor which he had to lug out from the store. When I thanked him, he said it was his job to help his customers with whatever they needed. Hats off to the young man who didn't hesitate to lend a helping hand. I've always known that "Havre Has It," but this was...

  • Letter to the Editor: Teen dating violence is serious issue

    Updated Feb 6, 2015

Editor: February is National Teen Dating Violence Prevention and Awareness Month, and it is critical that we take this time to remember that domestic violence is not just a problem for adults. One in three adolescents in the U.S. will be a victim of physical, emotional or sexual abuse from a dating partner. Nearly 80 percent of girls who have been physically abused in their intimate relationships continue to date their abuser. And two-thirds of teens who are in an abusive relationship never tell anyone about the abuse....

  • Our View: Hi-Line darts and laurels

    Updated Feb 6, 2015

Dart — The Montana House’s State Administration Committee tabled a bill that would have allowed people to register to vote online. That would have made it easier for people, especially those in rural areas and those who are disabled, to register. It’s too bad making it easier to vote has become such a partisan issue. Republicans would be way better off if they spent their time, money and energy trying to convince the electorate to vote for them instead of trying to make it harder for them to vote. Laurel — Montana State U...

  • View from the North 40

    Pam Burke|Updated Feb 6, 2015

Because we have now reached a critical point in the aging process of our white trash mansion, my husband and I are now considering the possibility of looking into maybe sometime soon upgrading, or “swapping out,” our living accommodations. I know that doesn’t sound like much of a commitment, but we do have some time before our current home starts to actually decompose. Months and months, at least — or possibly May when the temperature rises. Even then, it will just be the beg...

  • Out Our Way: Super Sunday!

    Updated Feb 6, 2015

John Bruington “Bear one another’s burdens and thus you will fulfill the law of Christ” — Galatians 6:2 Out our way, most folks were settled in with chips and dip, pizza, snack trays and various forms of liquid refreshment. Not quite as big as Christmas, some merchants really rake it in for America’s biggest secular celebration — the Super Bowl! This year I was especially interested, not because I am a Pats or Hawks fan, but I actually had money on the game. My letter carrier and I got talking about the game — and is she glad...

But, in a place that has rarely been a positive experience for MSU-N, the No. 10 Skylights turned things around in a big, big way. Thursday night in Lewiston, Idaho, Northern knocked off the No. 22 Lewis-Clark State Warriors 66-46, snapping a brief...
