"The rollout in Hill County has gone exceptionally well," said Northern Montana Health Care Director of Infection Prevention Alysia Mosness. Northern Montana Health Care has partnered with the Hill County H...

Editor, “This is a free country, so nobody can tell me to wear a face mask. I have the right to decide for myself whether I want to wear a face mask or get a COVID-19 vaccination.” Right? Wrong! This macho man — or woman — attitude is wrong legally, morally and from a common-sense perspective. The constitution guarantees everyone freedom of speech. However, this freedom is restricted. It does not confer the right to libel or slander others. Additionally, Supreme Court Justice Marshall stated that the Constitution does no...
That 2019 news about scientists teaching rats to drive a car is making the rounds again like it’s been cruising the drag and is coming back up the street. I was going to sit at my stop sign and let the fast and the furriest drive on by without commenting or even waving. But, I don’t know, it’s a story about lab rats being happy about driving a car to a spot where someone brings food to your window like going to an old-fashioned drive-up restaurant where a carhop brings you you...

That class, composed of Josh Warp, Kellen Detrick, Clint Owens, Max Olson and Nolan Lotton, will be honored Friday before the fifth-ranked Ponies play their final home game of the season when they host the Miles City Cowboys. Havre was set to face Miles City and Hardin this weekend, but the Hardin game has been...
It's time to be on the road. The Montana State University-Northern men's and women's basketball teams are back at it this weekend, with Frontier Conference games at Carroll College. For the Skylights (3-6, 4-9), it's a return to action as they saw their games at Providence canceled last week due to COVID-19 issues. And while Northern will still be short-handed this weekend, the Skylights are happy to be playing again, even if it's against the No. 6 team in the country. "I'm...
There's officially two signing days for college football, and the traditional February signing day came and went Wednesday. It was a big day for the Montana State University-Northern football program, as head coach Andrew Rolin announced 11 new signees to the Lights' program. Several of the signings had already been announced, including a pair of local prep standouts in Chinook tight end Reese Elliot and Harlem wide receiver Andrew Rassmussen. That duo comes to Northern from...
Out our way, some things take time to master, but once you get it, the thing becomes natural. In fact, you don't think about it all and it just seems to happen. There was a way of tying up Doc's halter rope to the trailer that was a sort of slip knot. The rope held him firmly, but if I pulled the loose end of the rope, it came free with ease. Although it was a simple knot to tie, it took me a long time to get it. It seems I was "overthinking" it - trying to tie it with my...
When my husband and I moved to Havre last year, we had just missed the 87th Annual Swedish Meatball and Norwegian Lutefisk Dinner held at First Lutheran Church in early February of 2020. Neither of us have Scandinavian heritage, so we aren’t too familiar with lutefisk or the other delicacies offered at the annual meal. We knew we would have to wait a long time to sink our teeth into that delicious whitefish. But we didn’t know just quite how long we would have to wait. Now among the many things that COVID-19 has dis...
You know, Lord, a couple weeks ago we heard about two acquaintances who had earlier this year, slipped and fallen, injuring shoulder and back. Thankfully, their church families frequently contacted those two gals, asking for updates, extending offers to help them out and always lifted them up in prayer. Also, thankfully, both gals had near by family to help out with trips to the doctor; they or their friends could buzz up town to pick up medicines for them or groceries....
It's winter in our lives, dear Lord, we need a touch from You, Let not this "season" mess with us, this pain we're walking through. If joy is our reluctant guest, and "spring" has left our step, Grant that we find some meaning, Lord, give us a bit more pep. Time hurries on but Grief lingers, come morning, noon or night, So be with us, each day, each hour, we know that You're our light! Loving Father, our thoughts turn now, to "winter" others bear. Lord, discontent is not...
